“Do curators dream of electric collection records?” Exploring how the Powerhouse online collection is used

“Do curators dream of electric collection records?” Exploring how the Powerhouse online collection is used.

As one of the first of a ‘new style’ of museum online collections, launching several internet generations ago in 2006, the Powerhouse Museum’s collection database has been undergoing a rethink in recent times. Tongue and Lips: Designing the Rolling Stones logo / Graphics / Things / V&A Channel

Tongue and Lips: Designing the Rolling Stones logo / Graphics / Things / V&A Channel.

John Pasche was still a student at the Royal College of Art when he was asked to design an image for a Rolling Stones tour in 1971. As Pasche explains in this film Mick Jagger invited the young designer to his Chelsea home to brief him. The logo was initially inspired less by Mick Jagger’s famous pouting lips than by the Indian goddess Kali who is often portrayed with a protruding pointed tongue. The image was an immediate success. Pasche was paid £50 and commissioned to design a logo which has featured on every Stones album since.

Arna-Jharna: The Desert Museum of Rajasthan

Arna-Jharna: The Desert Museum of Rajasthan is an attempt to re-imagine what a museum could be. Instead of being enclosed in a box, it celebrates the open spaces of the desert, including its flora and fauna, as part of a larger holistic exploration of the museum as a place of learning.

intro

Envisioned by the late Komal Kothari, one of India’s leading folklorists and oral historians, the Arna-Jharna Museum can be described as a process of interactive learning experiences linked to traditional knowledge systems.
